Full Time | 40 h per week | tenure-track option

The successful candidate is affiliated with the "Optimization and Optimal Control" Group at RICAM and is expected to take a decisive role in the developments of the group’s research activities. As a junior group leader, the candidate is not only expected to advance the own research topic but also to contribute to the definition of research directions of the group and to the formulation, submission, and management of research proposals. The position is located in Linz/Austria. The initial contract will have a duration of maximum 6 years and includes a tenure-track option.


The successful candidate will be in charge to build a strong research program on urbanisation and sustainability in mountain regions and will contribute to the development of solutions to the great challenges in the 21st century. An innovative and inter- and transdisciplinary range of methods, is expected, which includes quantitative and qualitative social research. The candidates are expected to understand urbanisation both as a qualitative process of the spread of urban ways of life and as the expansion of morphological and functional urban structures. The innovate research design should address changes of urban-rural interactions and impacts on socio-ecological mountain systems.

The hired person will work on optimization and control related to partial differential equations. He or she has already established a research profile which combines excellence in analytical and numerical innovation.

The position will provide the opportunity to build up an independent research team within the Optimization and Optimal Control Group at RICAM.

Your profile:

  • Doctorate related to the above requirements
  • Strong background and research profile in partial differential equations, control, and optimization
  • Strong background and research profile in numerical mathematics and computing
  • Experience with third party funding is welcome
  • English skills are needed
