Your personal sphere of influence:

The Institute for European, International and Comparative Law has a vacancy for a University Assistant Prae Doc starting October 1, 2024. As a university assistant prae doc, you will support Prof. Matthias Lehmann and his research team in the area of private international and comparative law.
The team is characterized by a high degree of internationality. The focus of our research is private international law (conflict of laws), international banking and financial law, as well as international dispute resolution (litigation and arbitration).
The position is initially limited to 1.5 years. It will be automatically extended to a total of 4 years unless the employer submits a declaration of non-renewal after a maximum of 12 months.

Your future tasks:

You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:

  • You are involved in research projects and scientific studies in the area of private international law, comparative law and international dispute resolution.
  • You support the head of the team at scientific publications and publish your own research.
  • We expect you to finalize your dissertation agreement within 12-18 months.
  • You work on your dissertation and its completion.
  • You hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
  • You take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration, for example
    • supervision of students
    • organisation of exams

This is part of your personality:

  • Completed Master's degree or Diploma in law
  • lnterest in questions of private international and comparative law
  • Motivation to work on your dissertation
  • Didactic competences / experience with e-learning
  • IT user skills (esp. Microsoft Office; advanced IT skills are desirable)
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English (C1 Level)
  • Knowledge of German or another foreign language is desirable (esp. French, Italian, Spanish)
