About this position:
- We expect you to finalize your dissertation agreement within 12-18 months.

Your personal sphere of influence:
- Communication: As the central point of contact, you will communicate in English and German with all partners (within the institute, with the university, project partners, students, etc.) and maintain the institute's website.
- Events: You will organise meetings, information events, lectures and symposia, including financial administration and taking minutes.
- Finance: You will monitor the institute budget’s income and expenditure (invoice controller) and assist with budgetary planning and reporting.
- Administration: You will assist scientific staff with the administration of their courses and exams. You will provide administrative support for externally funded projects and order office supplies for the institute.
- Human resources: You will administer the recruitment process as well as general HR matters and provide first-level support for time management (time administrator).

Your professional field of activity:
- You pursue your ambitious independent research agenda at the interface of Quantum Information and Quantum Many-Body Physics, with its focus on the mathematical theory of tensor networks, and the application of this theory to the comprehensive study of mathematical problems in quantum many-body systems.
- You collaborate on research projects with the members of the “Quantum Information and Quantum Many-Body Physics” group, and you actively maintain a network of international scientific collaborations.
- You disseminate your results through publications in renowned peer-reviewed journals, as well as through presentations at international conferences and workshops, and engage in outreach activities aimed at the general public.
- You actively acquire third-party funding for postdoctoral and doctoral positions to bolster your independent research agenda, and participate in collaborative grant applications of local, Austrian, and international initiatives.
- You contribute to teaching according to § 49 paragraph 7 of the collective agreement and independently hold courses and examinations, in particular in the field of Quantum Information and Quantum Many-Body Systems at the Faculty of Mathematics.
- You (co-)supervise bachelor, master, and PhD students, and you independently propose bachelor, master, and PhD projects to this end.
- You participate in evaluation measures and in quality assurance.
- You actively contribute to administrative tasks.

Your personal sphere of play:
We are looking for a dynamic, diplomatic and strategic thinker at the postdoctoral level to run the new Core Facility Animal Care (AC) at the University of Vienna Biology Building (UBB). The AC is grounded on basic research on animal behavior and cognition, but aims to connect researchers from related fields of expertise within the Faculty of Life Sciences, such as developmental and evolutionary biology and neuroscience.
As senior scientist and head of the AC, you will work closely with the existing research teams, and the non-scientific staff to create a critical mass and momentum, to foster excellent, integrated and impact-focused research in a state-of-the-art facility. You will actively contribute to the integration of existing and new working groups, the coordination and mentoring of staff and trainees, and the management of AC’s budget. Your further duties include the coordination of animal welfare approvals and ethical permissions, and the maintenance of the AC in compliance with animal welfare guidelines. You will be also responsible for internal and external communication and strategically guide our disseminations and PR activities to increase visibility.
We are looking for a researcher with advanced skills in animal behavior and/or animal welfare, with experience in the organization of animal research including coordination of staff and trainees, handling of animal experimentation licenses and dissemination strategies. We would expect a dynamic, open-minded, analytical, task-focused and socially skilled person with a good understanding of leadership and communication in both English and German language.
