Your future position is at the Faculty of Physics in the work group electronic properties of materials of Professor Pichler (epm.univie.ac.at). The Pichler group unites an international team of currently 10 young scientists which love to solve challenges and working together. Together we have assembled a unique skill set and knowledge base in solid state physics and nanospectroscopy including cutting edge methods development and advanced synthesis and functionalization of low dimensional advanced materials such as graphene, nanotubes, carbyne TMDC. Hence, the successful candidate will have to provide expert knowledge in experimental and theoretical solid-state spectroscopy and the development of spectroscopic techniques available in the group. Knowledge on synthesis and analysis of advanced novel low dimensional materials such as carbon nanotubes, 2D materials (e.g. TMDC, graphene) and their heterostructures. This also needs a sound knowledge of solid state physics including also teaching experience in this field and co-supervision of students. Regarding spectroscopic techniques for this position especially long-lasting experience in optical techniques and especially Raman spectroscopy as well as electron spectroscopies especially EELS and Photoemission is beneficial. As a university assistant (praedoc) on this 4-year position, you will be part of the ambitious quantum nanophysics team around Professor Markus Arndt, and you will be focusing on the developments of beam source, detectors and coherent beam splitting methods for metallic and dielectric clusters. You will be involved in the realization of high-mass matter-wave interferometer and explore prospective applications of this new tool. We are working on experiments at the interface between quantum and classical physics as well as between quantum and condensed matter physics. We develop universal matter-wave interferometry in the limit of high mass and high complexity, here with dielectrics and metal clusters. We develop novel tools for quantum sensing, mass spectrometry and physical chemistry. Our team is member of the Austrian Cluster of Excellence (qAustria), of the Vienna Doctoral School in Physics and of the faculty research group Quantum Optics, Quantum Nanophysics and Quantum Information. You will be part of a thriving community with more than 100 quantum scientists on premise, about 300 quantum researchers in the Vienna.
