Given the increasing aging of the population and the lack of effective treatment methods, neurodegenerative diseases represent one of the most urgent global health 
crises of our time. Although protein aggregation is a known hallmark of these diseases, the molecular "trigger" of this process remains poorly described.

The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences is seeking to fill a position for a PreDoc. The candidate should possess extensive knowledge in the fields of 
chemical biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical sciences in order to effectively conduct research in these areas.

Your personal sphere of influence:

Recent research suggests that non-enzymatic post-translational modifications (nPTMs) are important, yet poorly understood, drivers of disease progression. As a PhD student in the Rademacher Lab, you will be deeply involved in this problem. Your research will focus on identifying novel compounds using highly sensitive biophysical methods and applying them to targeted protein degradation.

As part of a consortium at the University of Vienna, you will work at the interface of biochemistry, cell biology and chemical biology to translate fundamental insights into innovative therapeutic strategies.

Your future tasks:

You actively participate in research, teaching, and administration; you are motivated and curious in your research and are ready to bridge the gap between biophysics and therapeutic discoveries. To be successful in this position, you should possess the following:

• Deep Biophysical Expertise: You have profound experience in ligand identification methods, specifically NMR, SPR, GCI, or nanoDSF.
• A Molecular Mindset: You possess a strong foundation in fragment-based drug design (FBDD) and medicinal chemistry. Prior experience or a keen interest in Targeted Protein Degradation (TPD) will give you a significant head start.
• Versatile Bench Skills: You are comfortable with essential cell biology techniques, including tissue culture, Western blotting, and flow cytometry.
• An Analytical Edge: You don’t just collect data; you enjoy the "puzzle." You possess sharp analytical thinking and the problem-solving skills required to navigate complex biological questions.
• Collaborative Spirit, Independent Drive: You thrive in a multidisciplinary team environment but are equally capable of managing your project independently.
• Communication Skills: You have a track record of clear scientific communication and strong writing skills.

This is part of your personality:

• • Completed Completed Master's/Diploma degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences and related disciplines - MSc, Excellent knowledge of chemical biology, biochemistry, biotechnology.
    Extensive and excellent knowledge in the fields of chemical biology, biochemistry, and biotechnology in order to be able to meaningfully carry out
    research tasks in this area.  
  • Didactic skills / experience in e-learning
  • Initial practical experience in academic writing und research methods
  • IT user skills 
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English (C1 Level)
  • Required skills: experience in cell culture, flow cytometry, medicinal chemistry, NMR, SPRXY 
  • You should be a team player with high social skills

Fair salary: Doctoral candidates at the University of Vienna are employed on the basis of a 75% full-time position (30 hours per week). A full-time position (40 hours per week) corresponds to €3,776.10 per month. The base salary of €3,776.10 (based on full-time employment) increases if we can recognize relevant professional experience. The employment period is four years. The employment contract is initially limited to 1.5 years and is automatically extended to four years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a non-renewal notice.
