At the Department of Geodesy and Geoinformation, in the Research Unit of Climate and Environmental Remote Sensing TU Wien is offering a position as senior scientist (all genders) for 40 hours/week. Expected start: April 2026.
Tasks:
- Independent research and project work in the field of microwave satellite-based vegetation monitoring
- Independent teaching of courses and supervision of students
- Development of scientific methods, concepts, as well as their realization and evaluation
- Writing project proposals to apply for funding from national and international agencies (e.g. ESA, FWF and the European Commission) and coordinating and managing these projects
- Participation in organizational and administrative tasks as well as in evaluation measures of the research division, department, and faculty
Your profile:
- Completion of an appropriate master degree in the field of Earth observation, environmental sciences, geodesy and geoinformation, or equivalent university degree in Austria or abroad, and ambition to obtain PhD degree in due course
- Knowledge of scientific working as well as excellent specialist knowledge in Earth observation, in particular microwave remote sensing of vegetation
- Proven track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at international conferences
- Excellent programming skills (preferably Python) for research, data processing, and teaching purposes
- Interdisciplinary and team working abilities
- Experience and pleasure in teaching and supervision of students
- Organisational and analytical skills as well as a structured way of working
- Knowledge of German (language of instruction), excellent knowledge of English
- Experience in the acquisition and coordination of externally-funded projects

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade B1 of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 3,776.10/month gross, 14 times/year for 40 hours/week. Relevant working experiences may increase the monthly income.
