Your personal sphere of play:
Your future position is at the Department of Environmental Geosciences (EDGE), characterized by excellent research on the environmental fate of anthropogenic chemicals. For example, we combine state-of-the art analytical techniques and laboratory experiments to elucidate biodegradation reactions and key influence factors.
The department is part of the Centre for Microbiology and Environmental Systems Science (CeMESS). Staff and students appreciate the multidisciplinary and internationality that characterise CeMESS.
Your future tasks:
Active participation in research, teaching & administration, which means:
- You conduct innovative research in the field of environmental biochemistry and organic chemical biotransformation.
- You are involved in research projects focusing on the factors controlling the biotransformation of relevant organic chemicals in environmental systems.
- You work towards publications in leading journals and contributions at leading conferences.
- You co-supervise students and junior researchers.
- You contribute to evaluation measures and quality assurance.
- You take over administrative tasks in research as well as teaching.
This is part of your personality:
- PhD studies in Biochemistry, Microbiology, or a closely related field (completed or close to completion)
- Expertise and research experience in lipid/membrane biochemistry, protein biochemistry, bacterial isolation/cultivation, and microscopy
- Proven competence and initiative in research areas relevant to the position (e.g., through publication record, conference contribution, awards)
- IT skills and very good R or Python skills for data processing
- Expertise in, or strong motivation to learn, advanced analytical chemistry, including high-resolution mass spectrometry, and respirometry – all in the context of biodegradation research
- Strong motivation for teaching and supervision and some experience in both
- Excellent knowledge of English (at least at level B2)
- Team player and excellent communicative skills
- Working experience in different laboratories, ideally internationally, is a significant advantage.
