Call for proposals
In 2023, the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW) established the Antisemitism Research
Group, which aims to conduct comprehensive research into contemporary antisemitism in
Austria in an institutionalized form.
The ÖAW is inviting applications for 2026 fellowships at all career levels (from pre-doctoral
level). The aim of the fellowship is to close research gaps in the field of research on
antisemitism in Austria.
The call for proposals focuses on projects that deal with manifestations and actors of
antisemitism in Austria or with the reactions and/or defensive measures of Jewish and non-
Jewish actors. The connection to Austria must be given in any case and the focus should be on
the period from 1945 to the present.
Your profile
Applications are welcome from all areas of the humanities, social sciences and cultural studies.
The scope of the project and thus also the topic proposed in the application should correspond
to the applicant's respective career stage.
We offer
The ÖAW Fellowship includes
a stay of 6 months at the ÖAW (with an option to extend for a further 6 months) and a
standard working place at the Institute of Culture Studies. The amount of the scholarship
depends on the respective career stage of the successful applicant:
PraeDoc monthly gross € 3,734.17
PostDoc monthly gross€ 4,930.60
for 40 hours per week employment at an academic institution
In addition, a travel allowance in the amount of the actual costs will be paid by the ÖAW.
Duration
Planned start: 1st quarter 2026.
Presence in Vienna is required.
Result
A publishable manuscript (e.g. journal article) or a project submission as well as (in case of an
extension) the organization of a workshop is expected.

Applications can be submitted in either German or English.
