Your Tasks
- To conduct independent and innovative research on Buddhism in Japan – its doctrines, practices and/or institutions –, with research questions in the history of religion, cultural history, the history of philosophy and/or intellectual history (any of these perspectives is welcome)
- To actively apply for competitive third party-funded projects supporting junior scholars and engage in mentoring activities
- To provide expertise in support of other research projects at the Institute;
- To contribute to the development of the Institute’s publication series
- To engage in comparative and/or transcultural research within the Cluster of Excellence “EurAsian Transformations“
- To participate in the (co-)organization of academic events at the Institute, and in various activities within the Cluster of Excellence “EurAsian Transformations“, including public outreach activities

Your work setting:
- You work on your dissertation and its completion within four years
- You work on the dissemination of your research (e.g. through conference participation and publications)
- You become an active member of the new research platform “Multilateralism Revisited”
- You teach courses within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement for Austrian universities (up to two teaching hours per week)
- You participate in, (co-)organize, and contribute to joint activities of the research platform such as workshops, public seminars and lectures, grant-writing, and publications
- You participate in the events of the respective department where you are based

Your personal sphere of influence:

Completed Master’s or Diploma degree in Biology or a related field; specialization in neurobiology is an advantage. • Strong experience in scientific writing as well as in experimental and computational research methods, in particular: – experimental work with C. elegans – experience with modern microscopy techniques (e.g., spinning-disk confocal microscopy, light-sheet microscopy) – analysis of large imaging datasets using advanced image processing and segmentation methods – computational and statistical analysis of large-scale neuronal activity datasets • Very good programming skills in Python (mandatory). • Teaching experience and an interest in contributing to academic instruction. • Excellent command of English, both written and spoken. • Strong team orientation and well-developed social and communication skills.
