Your personal scope:
Join us at the Institute for Public and Administrative Law (Faculty of Law), led by Professor Dr. Anuscheh Farahat (Chair of “Public Law in its European Context”). We research and teach constitutional and administrative law in a European context, with a strong focus on migration law and human rights. We are hiring a postdoctoral researcher to lead the academic coordination of the Vienna Centre for Migration & Law (VCML).
At the Chair and within the VCML, you’ll engage with a vibrant program of scholarly activity: regular VCML workshop talks that spotlight current legal developments and ongoing research—often in collaboration with external scholars—as well as international conferences and workshops hosted by the Centre. As Scientific Coordinator, you will play a key role in shaping the VCML’s academic vision and daily work: advancing and coordinating the Centre’s research program, running the fellow program, and contributing to teaching. The VCML leads the specialized study track in migration and asylum law, where you will co-design and deliver innovative teaching formats.
You’ll join a collegial, ambitious team with outstanding opportunities for academic and personal growth. Regular internal research colloquia offer space to discuss your own projects and the research of other team members and fellows. You’ll work in a vibrant academic community that promotes interdisciplinary exchange and international cooperation.
Your specific tasks:
- Active involvement in research, teaching and administration
- Scientific coordination and further development of the adademic program of the Vienna Centre for Migration & Law (VCML)
- Participation in the development and acquisition of third-party funded projects in the fields of migration law and human rights
- Independent research and publications (optional: possibility of habilitation)
- Design and organization of academic events and publications
- Coordination of the VCML visiting fellow program
- Course design and independent teaching to the extent stipulated by the collective agreement (in migration law and general public law)
Your profile:
- Completed doctorate in law or socio-legal studies
- Interest in collaborating with students and international researchers
- Initiative, ability to work in a team and good communication skills
- Interest in academic work, particularly in migration law and human rights
- Interest in interdisciplinary work
- Interest in independent academic qualification
- Excellent English skills, spoken and written (at least C1)
- Excellent German skills, spoken and written (at least C1)
- Expertise in European migration and asylum law is required
- Knowledge of Austrian migration and asylum law is a asset
