Your personal sphere of play:
Your future position will be in the ‘Psychoanalysis and Education’ research unit (headed by Univ. Prof. Dr. Dr. Roger Frie) and will offer you the opportunity to conduct research and teach in an internationally networked team while developing your own research profile. The focus of the position is the theme of social psychoanalysis, both in terms of its history and its application to current social crises.
Social psychoanalysis examines the ways in which we are unconsciously shaped by social forces, power structures, and ideologies. The research unit has two main areas of focus: the first is on the radical history of social psychoanalysis, with an emphasis on the Free Clinics and the social mission of psychoanalysis in the 1920s and early 1930s, as well as the growing connection between psychoanalysis, progressive politics and social justice today; the second is on the application of social psychoanalysis to current social crises, in particular for understanding and responding to the growth of antisemitism, racism and deepening social inequalities. The position and the research unit are interdisciplinary in scope, drawing on the fields of education, history, psychology and social theory, with an overarching emphasis on contemporary traditions of clinical and theoretical psychoanalysis.
The research unit has an international perspective and collaborates with partners in Germany, Great Britain, Canada, the United States and Japan and will provide the opportunity to engage in lively exchanges with internationally active visitors, and the chance to attend international conferences.
