A position is to be filled at the Institute for Medieval Research within the Cluster of Excellence “EurAsian Transformations” ( https://www.oeaw.ac.at/eurasian-transformations/home ) The position is limited to a duration of six months. Thematically, one of the following ten research areas is to be pursued independently, in close collaboration with the designated mentor. Visible research outcomes are expected in the form of at least one completed publication (e.g. a scholarly article or a book chapter).

7. Resilient Identities and Distinctions in Eurasian Comparison (Walter Pohl)
8. The Idea of Empire and the Slavs, 860-1989 (Pavlina Rychterova)
9. Multilingualism and Cultural Translation in Central and Eastern Europe 1300-1700 (Pavlina Rychterova)
10. The True Believer – Dynamics of Religious Identification in Central/Eastern Europe, 14th-18th century (Pavlina Rychterova)
Your Tasks
- Conduct independent research on one of the specified research topics within the framework of the Cluster of Excellence, leading to a publishable outcome (e.g. a scholarly article or book chapter)
- Collaborate with other members and groups of the Cluster of Excellence in developing comparative perspectives
- Demonstrate commitment to the goals of the Cluster and to the integration of its members, as well as contribute to activities in the areas of training and knowledge transfer/outreach
- Actively participate in the academic and organizational activities of the Institute for Medieval Research
Your Profile
- Completed university degree (PhD) in a relevant field of study
- Experience in working with sources in the original languages required for the project
- Excellent command of German and English required
- Several years of postdoctoral experience in the research field desirable
- Basic competencies in the field of Digital Humanities
- Experience in large-scale historical research projects and in interdisciplinary collaboration is an asset
- International publication record and experience in giving presentations desirable
- International experience and strong academic networking
- Flexibility, strong communication skills, creativity, and ability to work in a team

For part-time employment, the salary will be adjusted on a pro rata basis in line with the agreed working hours.
