Academy Scientist (f/m/x) - Sprachdynamik

The position is situated in the context of the OeAW long term project “Language Dynamics in Austria” (‘Sprachdynamik in Österreich’, DynAT), which is dedicated to the comprehensive documentation and analysis of language-dynamic processes in Austria. The project combines research on language variation and language change – with a particular focus on the lexicon and its interfaces. In doing so, it pursues a strongly text-technological approach, in which digital methods and formats are central. Your responsibilities will include the coordination and networking of linguistic sub-projects and satellite projects within DynAT, the investigation of language variation and language change in Austria, as well as the corpus-linguistic processing of historical and contemporary language data. The requirements profile encompasses experience in contributing to and coordinating research projects, solid expertise and research experience in variational and corpus linguistics (with a focus on Austria), as well as foundational technical competencies and familiarity with current developments in the field of Digital Humanities.
Your Tasks
- Coordination and networking of linguistic sub-projects and satellite projects within DynAT
- Research on language dynamics in the Austrian context
- Corpus-linguistic and lexicographic processing and analysis of language data and language corpora held at the Institute
- Contribution to the preparation and submission of project proposals in the context of language variation and language change research
- Collaboration within the “Linguistics” research department at the ACDH
- Participation in project working meetings (in a wide variety of configurations and sizes), workshops, conferences, and symposia
Your Profile
- Completed doctorate in one of the following fields: German Philology/German Studies with a focus on linguistics; Linguistics with a focus on German
- Experience in contributing to and coordinating research projects
- Experience with linguistic research using digital methods
- Familiarity with digital methods and tools in the Digital Humanities (DH)
- Experience with the processing of large datasets and/or semi-automated curation workflows, in particular with XML databases, is an advantage
- Very good command of German, very good command of English
- Ability to integrate into and work effectively within a team, independence, reliability, resilience, and flexibility

The initial gross monthly salary is at least EUR 5.011,96 in accordance with the collective agreement for employees of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. A higher salary is negotiable depending on experience or academic qualification. The start of employment is planned for June 2026 and is limited to 5 years.
