Your responsibilities:
As a University Assistant Praedoc, you will complement the research team focused on Byzantine Art History.
The research emphasis lies in the analysis of Byzantine visual art, taking into account iconographic, stylistic, and cultural-historical questions, with a particular focus on Georgian culture in the Middle Ages. Aligning your own project with Georgian art is not a requirement but will be seen in a positive way.
The employment duration is 3 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 3 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a declaration of non-extension. With appropriate work progress, an extension to a total maximum of 4 years is possible.
Your future tasks:
You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:
• Contributing to research projects and academic studies in the field of Byzantine and Georgian art.
• We expect you to finalize your dissertation agreement within 12–18 months.
• Working on your dissertation and its completion.
• Independently conducting courses in accordance with the collective agreement regulations.
• Taking on administrative tasks in research and teaching.
This is part of your personality:
• Completed Master's/Diploma degree in the field of Byzantine Art History.
• Initial experience in academic writing and research methods.
• Excellent English skills (C1) / Knowledge of an additional foreign language.
• You are a team player with strong social and communication skills.

Additionally, it should specify the planned materials and sources, the guiding research questions and working hypotheses, as well as a preliminary outline and timeline.
• A summary of the Master's or Diploma thesis (maximum three pages) that concisely presents the topic, objectives, methodological approach, and key findings. Also include the table of contents of the thesis and the evaluation report with the grade.
