Your personal sphere of influence:
As a University Assistant Praedoc you will be part of the research team of the professorship of Ancient Philosophy of Prof. Dr. George Karamanolis. The main research areas associated with this professorship are: The philosophy of Aristotle with special emphasis on his theory of the soul and epistemology.
Your duties will include active participation in research, teaching and administration at the Department of Philosophy in the research area of Ancient Philosophy. The main focus of the position is on the completion of a dissertation ready for publication within the range of topics of the research area or research focus.
The duration of the contract at the time of employment is 4 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 4 years if the employer does not submit a declaration of non-extension within the first 12 months.
Your future tasks:
You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:
- You are involved in research projects and scientific studies.
- You contribute to publications, scientific articles and lectures.
- You work on your dissertation and its completion.
- We expect you to finalize your dissertation agreement within 12-18 months.
- You hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
- You take on administrative tasks in research and teaching as well as in the department.
- You supervise students.
- You are involved in the organization of conventions, conferences and symposia.
This is part of your personality:
- Completed Master's degree or Diploma in the field of philosophy
- Outstanding achievements during your studies
- Thorough knowledge of ancient philosophy and the history of philosophy
- High level of written and oral communication skills
- Excellent command of written and spoken English (C1 Level)
- Knowledge of Greek and Latin
- IT-Skills (e.g. Word, Powerpoint etc.)
- Organizational and team skills
- You should be a team player with high social skills
The following are desirable:
- Teaching experience / experience with e-learning
- Knowledge of university procedures and structures
- Knowledge of analytical philosophy
- Experience abroad
- Initial experience in scientific work
- Willingness to acquire German language skills within 3 years that are sufficient for teaching in Bachelor's and Master's programs and for participation in university committees
