In addition to providing a solid academic education, we also place a special emphasis on the personal development of students. With 27 teaching subjects, one specialization and over 11,000 students, the University of Vienna is the largest institution of teacher education in Austria. At the Centre for Teacher Education (ZLB), we are working to bundle and further develop the various initiatives to improve the quality of teacher education. Together with the faculties and centres and the university colleges of teacher education within the North-East Schools’ Group, future teachers are prepared for the changing needs of a modern school and are enabled to contribute to shaping the learning and living environment of schools on the basis of scientific expertise.
Your workplace:
As a Senior Lecturer, you will be employed in teaching for the teaching degree for secondary schools (general education) in the field of General Principles of Educational Sciences (“Allgemeine Bildungswissenschaftliche Grundlagen”) with special consideration of the school pedagogical perspective.
The employment of 40 hours/week includes a teaching obligation of an average of 14 hours per week of academic teaching.
Two positions are being advertised. As part of your application, please let us know for which of the two specialisations you see a better personal fit. Both positions include a teaching portfolio with courses in areas such as teaching and learning, school and profession, differentiation and inclusion, and administrative support for teaching.
- Specialisation 1: The focus is on knowledge of professional competences and its application in the school context. In particular, the position requires skills in school-related teaching and learning from an educational science or explicitly school pedagogical perspective.
- Specialisation 2: The specialisation is characterised by the active participation in the design of teaching practice (“Pädagogisch-praktische Studien”) in the Bachelor's and Master's programmes. In particular, the position requires pedagogical and practical skills and the associated knowledge of the link between competences acquired at university and concrete teaching and school practice requirements. Experience in the organization of school and teaching internships is an advantage.
Furthermore, the following is desired:
- Knowledge of the acquisition or development of basic profession-related competencies
- Knowledge of social environments and inclusive interaction with students, parents/guardians and other relevant actors in the school environment as well as the design of learning in a diversity-responsive school
- Knowledge in the field of language education, communication and language skills
- Knowledge of group dynamic processes (e.g. classroom discussions, interaction processes, media and digitality), classroom management and conflict management.
Your future tasks:
- You will independently hold courses at Bachelor's and Master's level
- You will make an active contribution to the (further) development of course and examination formats.
- In addition, we expect from you the ongoing reception of the current state of science as well as the didactic further training during the lecture-free time.
- You will take on administrative tasks, especially in the administration of teaching.
What we expect:
We are looking for people who see university teaching as an interesting and challenging career field. Requirements for application are:
- Completed PhD studies in the field of educational science or a comparable subject
- Several years of independent teaching at a post-secondary educational institution
- Enthusiasm for the transfer of knowledge and for university teaching
- Experience in research and publication
- Sound knowledge in the field of educational science with a focus on school pedagogy
- (University) didactic competences / Reflective use of media and digital technologies to support learning processes and promote digital education
- Excellent knowledge of German and English (C1)
- High communication and language skills, understanding of group dynamic processes in the classroom and school context, classroom management
- Understanding of social environments as well as professional design of inclusive educational processes and language education
- Practical school experience is desirable (preferably proven by a teaching qualification and independent teaching activity)
