ACADEMY SCIENTIST (F/M/X) in the area of Digital Lexicography
(Part-time employee)
(part-time, 28h per week)
The position is situated in the context of the OeAW long term project “Dictionary of Bavarian Dialects in Austria” (‘Wörterbuch der bairischen Mundarten in Österreich’, WBÖ), which is dedicated to the comprehensive documentation, digital-lexicographic processing, and analysis of the various base and regional dialects of (historical) Austria and South Tyrol. The WBÖ project pursues a modern text-technological approach in which digital methods and formats are of central importance. Your tasks will therefore include research on language variation and language change in Austria, as well as the preparation and optimization of databases and corpora. Basic technical skills and familiarity with the latest developments in the field of Digital Humanities, in particular corpus linguistic methods, are just as much a part of the job profile as solid knowledge in the areas of language variation, dialectology and lexis.
Ihr Aufgabenbereich
- Corpus linguistic editing and analysis of data from the “Dictionary of Bavarian Dialects in Austria” (WBÖ)
- Research on language variation and change in Austrian dialects (from the WBÖ to the present)
- Collaboration in preparing and submitting project proposals in the context of research on language variation and change in Austria
- Collaboration in the research department “Linguistics” (consisting of postdocs, doctoral students, student assistants and professors)
- Participation in project meetings (in different constellations and sizes), conferences and symposia
Ihr Profil
- Completed doctorate in one of the following areas: German Philology/German Studies with a linguistic focus; Linguistics with a focus on German; Computational Linguistics with a focus on lexis/lexicography; Digital Humanities with a linguistic focus
- Experience in (supporting) linguistic research through digital methods
- Experience in modeling linguistic data (especially TEI/XML)
- Familiarity with digital methods and tools in Digital Humanities (DH)
- Advantageous: experience with processing large datasets and/or semi-automated curation workflows, especially with XML databases
- Very good knowledge of German, very good knowledge of English
- Ability to integrate and work in a team, independence, reliability, resilience, and flexibility
Unser Angebot
The initial monthly gross salary is € 48.319,88 in accordance with the collective agreement for employees of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. Based on your experience and academic degree a higher salary is negotiable.
The employment will start at the earliest in May 2025 and run initially for 5 years.
