The Department of Art Histroy at the University of Vienna is one of the oldest and biggest centers for research and education in its field. One "Prae-doc"-position (75 %, University Assistant) is available form September 8th, 2026 for 3 years.
Your personal sphere of influence:
The position offers first-hand experience in academia culminating in a PhD diploma. The subject of the PhD should be within the areas of expertice of the laboratory for Cognitive Research in Art History (https://crea.univie.ac.at/).
Your future tasks:
- PhD thesis, preferably in the area of the FWF project The Museum Gaze (https://crea.univie.ac.at/projects/the-museum-gaze/),
- the assistance of Prof. Rosenberg in teaching and research,
- indipendant teaching in art history (one course per semester),
- participation in the administration of the department.
This is part of your personality:
- Above-average MA in art history,
- excellent English and or German,
- good computer skills (knowledge of a programming language would be advantageous).
What we offer:
Extent of Employment: 30hours/week. Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 Grundstufe praedoc (basic salary of EUR 3.776,10 on a full-time basis) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.
The employment duration is 3 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 3 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a non-extension declaration.
