The Organic Synthesis Group of Prof. Maulide at the Faculty of Chemistry is currently seeking a PhD student with research experience in organic chemistry and natural product synthesis for temporary employment relationship (until March 31, 2026).
Your personal sphere of influence:
Studies on the stereoselective synthesis of organic compounds. The focus is on the development of new organic reactions and reaction sequences, with an emphasis on exploring the reactivity of oxocarbenium ions, the synthesis and characterization of fluorescent organic cations for biological applications, and the synthesis of bioactive molecules (e.g., linkers, affinity probes).
Your future tasks:
- Participation in research projects / research studies
- Participation in publications / academic articles / presentations
- Working on your dissertation and its completion
- You are expected to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12 months.
- Participation in teaching and independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
- Involvement in the organisation of meetings, conferences, symposiums
- Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration
This is part of your personality:
- Completed Master's degree or Diploma, in the field of Chemistry with profound knowledge and practical experience in the field of Organic Synthesis.
- Ability to work independently in the field of organic synthesis, including working under inert atmosphere.
- Experience with the chemistry of fluorescent molecules (including their characterization and evaluation of photochemical parameters) is desirable, as is experience with the functionalization of amides and rearrangement reactions.
- Experience with the chemistry of reactive carbocationic intermediates and their selective conversion into functionalized products, as well as experience with bioactive molecules and molecules used to address biological questions, is advantageous.
- Experience with chemical biology and related techniques is advantageous.
- Basic experience in academic writing and with research methods.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English.
- IT user skills: e.g. Microsoft Office, ChemOffice
- You should be a team player with high social skills
