At the Institute for Theoretical Physics, TU Wien is offering a position as university assistant prae-doc (all genders) limited to expected 4 years for 30 hours/week. Expected start: December 2025.
Tasks:
- Theoretical and computational research in soft matter and biological systems, with a focus on developing coarse-grained models for macromolecules such as proteins, antibodies, nucleic acid structures, and soft polymeric materials. Tasks include the design of accurate and efficient coarse-grained models, simulation using classical Monte Carlo and molecular dynamics methods, and validation of results against experimental data
- Writing and publishing of a dissertation and scientific articles
- Participation in research and project activities
- Participation in scientific events
- Participation in teaching activities and exams
- Participation in supervision and work with students
- Participation in organizational and administrative tasks
Your profile:
- Completion of a bachelor and master in physics, with specialization in soft matter
- Advanced knowledge in classical statistical physics
- Advanced computational skills in classical simulation methods (Monte Carlo and molecular dynamics) and data processing
- Prior experience on machine learning approaches is a plus
- Interdisciplinary background with work developed at the intersection between physics and biology will be given special consideration
- Prior contact with experiments or experience collaborating with experimental groups is highly appreciated
- Strong interest and enthusiasm for analytical as well as numerical work on theoretical physics problems
- Interest in supervision and work with students
- Ability for independent research, team work, and creative thinking
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills in English
- Communication skills in German are a plus

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade B1 of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 2,786.10/month gross, 14 times/year for 30 hours/week. Relevant working experiences may increase the monthly income.
