The University of Vienna (with 20 faculties and centers, 184 study programs, approx. 10,400 staff and nearly 90,000 students) is seeking to fill the position of a University Assistant ("post doc") at the Discipline of Alevi Theological Studies.
Extent of employment: 40 hours/week
We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to join our academic team as a lecturer and researcher in the field of Alevi Theology, with a focus on migration, integration, cultural transformation, or religious practices of Alevi communities in Europe. This position offers the opportunity to actively contribute to research, teaching, and departmental administration within a dynamic academic environment.
Your responsibilities:
Active participation in research, teaching, and administration, including:
- Development of an independent research profile
- Participation in research projects and academic studies
- International publications and conference presentations
- Application for project funding and acquisition of third-party funds
- Independent teaching in accordance with the collective agreement
- Student supervision
- Participation in evaluation measures and quality assurance
- Participation in departmental administration and program development
Your profile:
- Completed doctorate/PhD in Political Science, Religious Studies, Anthropology, History or similar disciplines.
- Research experience and publications in Alevi Theology or topics related to pedagogy, migration, integration, and religious practices of Alevi communities in Europe.
- Relevant knowledge in qualitative and quantitative empirical research
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Required languages: German (native or fluent), English (fluent), Turkish (fluent), Kurdish – Good proficiency (desirable)
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a team while also working independently.
- A strong commitment to contributing to the Alevi Theological Studies Program curriculum.
Desirable qualifications:
- In-depth knowledge and research experience related to Alevi communities in Europe
- Experience in teaching Alevi-related courses at university and/or higher education institutions
- Familiarity with university procedures and structures
- Experience in international academic collaborations
- Proven experience in student supervision at the university level
- MS Office (mandatory)
