A PostDoc position is available in the group of Verena Pichler at the University of Vienna, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Division of Pharmaceutical Chemistry starting in August 2025.

We are a young and enthusiastic team that focuses on developing new diagnostics and therapeutics for positron emission tomography and single-photon emission computed tomography. We are a highly interdisciplinary and international team closely working together with colleagues from different medical universities, biomedical engineering and radiochemists.

We are enthusiastic about neurochemicals acting as agonists or antagonists on G-protein coupled receptors located in the peripheral and central nervous system. Our goal is to address the clinical needs to diagnose and treat the neurological pathologies at the origin of the disease; thus, avoiding a merely systematic treatment and rather stopping or delaying disease progression.

We are looking for a candidate with strong expertise in synthetic organic chemistry and small molecule characterization, with a passion for drug discovery and medical chemistry to join our young and enthusiastic team. The project involves the design and synthesis of small molecules that can be applied as diagnostic probes for positron emission tomography (PET). The position involves the supervision of master and PhD students, involvement in teaching and laboratory and academic management and grand application writing.

Your future tasks:

Active participation in research, teaching & administration, which means:

• Experience in synthetic organic/ medicinal chemistry / drug design and a passion for drug discovery
• Experience in advanced organic chemical synthesis and compound characterization techniques in the laboratory with focus on small molecules.
• A deep interest and an enthusiasm for highly interdisciplinary scientific work and personal growth beyond your current expertise.
• A critical, curious, innovative and analytical mind.
• Ability to work responsibly, reliably, diligently and independently perform experiments and contribute to teaching.
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team in an international environment.
• A passion for training colleagues and students in the laboratory, and laboratory management.
• The willingness to work with radioactivity in the field of radiopharmaceutical sciences.
• Strong willingness for international engagement
• Involvement in the preparation of grant applications and raise third-party funds.
• Initiative to actively contribute to the departmental development and interdepartmental teamwork
• You participate in evaluation measures and in quality assurance.

•    Completed doctoral/PhD studies in subject organic chemistry/drug design and development/radiochemistry
•    Outstanding dissertation
•    Research competence and initiative proven through international publications in peer-relevant media
•    Didactic skills and teaching evaluation
•    Excellent scientific and technical wrting skills
•    Knowledge of: relevant softwares. scientific databases
•    Excellent knowledge of English (C1) / basic knowledge in German advantageous
•    Team player and high social/communicative skills
