The University of Vienna (20 faculties and centres, 179 fields of study, approx. 10.000 members of staff, about 90.000 students) seeks to fill the position from 01.10.2025 of a Postdoc Position at the Research Group Data Mining and Machine Learning at the Faculty of Computer Science, University of Vienna under the supervision of Prof. Claudia Plant.
The Faculty of Computer Science of the University of Vienna has world-leading researchers in Computer Science who pursue basic as well as applied research.
The research group Data Mining and Machine Learning at the Faculty of Computer Science is looking for a highly motivated postdoc. We are offering an excellent working environment in a young, creative and international team. As a member of the Data Mining team, you will contribute to fascinating data mining projects offering the possibility to take over responsibility at an early stage, to publish the results at leading international conferences and to exchange ideas with international and interdisciplinary cooperation partners. We provide intensive support during course of your dissertation.
Your future tasks:
Participation in research, teaching and administration:
- Participation in research projects
- Participation in publications and their presentation at conferences
- Participation in teaching and independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
- Supervision of students and PhD students
- Participation in external fundraising activities
- Involvement in the organisation of meetings, conferences, symposiums
- Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration
- The research should focus on data mining, e.g., clustering, representation learning, causality detection and graph mining.
This is part of your personality:
- Master in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or equivalent qualification with a strong focus on Computer Science with excellent marks.
- PhD with focus on data mining
- Strong publication record
- Leadership abilities to supervise students and PhD students
- Teaching experience
- Very good German and English language skills.
- Very good mathematical understanding
- Very good programming skills
- Strong ability to work in teams
- Perseverance and ability to make things done
What we offer:
Duration of employment: 6 years
Extent of employment: 20.0 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 € 4.932,90 (on a full-time basis) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.
