Your personal sphere of play:
Your future position is at the Institute for European, International, and Comparative Law at the University of Vienna, in the team of Univ.-Prof. Dr. Thomas Jaeger. We conduct excellent research and teaching in all areas of European law, with a focus on the substantive law of the internal market.
Your future tasks:
The core of this position is the completion of your postdoctoral thesis (habilitation) and the targeted development of an independent research profile, aiming at a professorship at a university or research institution in Austria or abroad. You actively participate in research and teaching within the team and contribute to the visibility and profile buiding of the team in academia and the public. Specifically, your responsibilities include:
- You contribute to and deepen an independent research profile in one or more areas of European internal market law (European economic law).
- You aim for a habilitation in European law, and pursue a habilitation project with a postdoctoral thesis and the goal of obtaining teaching authorization for European law.
- You work on projects and studies in the research areas of the team.
- You publish nationally and internationally and give lectures.
- You hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
- You supervise students.
- You independently moderate planned academic events (conferences or smaller formats) and contribute to the organization of events as part of a team.
- You are ready to support the team with occasional administrative tasks as needed.
This is part of your personality:
- You aspire to an academic career as a university professor (in Austria or abroad) and see this position as a step toward obtaining the formal qualifications needed (particularly the habilitation), and as a chance to develop a distinct, visible research profile within the academic community.
- Completed domestic or foreign doctoral/PhD studies in the field of law.
- Outstanding dissertation in the field of European law or with a strong connection to European law.
- Proven research expertise in European law and in particular in the law of the EU internal market through publications.
- Previous employment at a university or research facility and teaching experience are an asset, likewise, experience abroad and work or internship experience at European institutions or in national administrative or legal practice are of advantage.
- Excellent knowledge of German and very good knowledge of English (C1), knowledge of another foreign language is an advantage.
- You exhibit confidence, professional demeanor, determination, and a clear career vision. At the same time, you are a team player with strong social and communication skills. You have internalized that excellent scientific research can only succeed through collaboration: through exchange, open communication, and mutual support, shared added value is created, which ultimately also benefits your own career.
