Tenure-Track Professorship in Mathematical Foundations of Data Science



The position

We invite applications from early career scientists with expertise in the mathematical foundations of data science. Candidates should have a strong background in theoretical research and demonstrated ability to advance foundational concepts. We particularly welcome applicants whose work also involves developing novel mathematical methods with applications to data science and artificial intelligence.

The position serves as a pivotal connection between the Faculty of Mathematics and the Research Network “Data Science @ Uni Vienna”. The successful candidate will collaborate with research groups at the University of Vienna engaged in fundamental research in data science, as well as those dedicated to developing practical applications utilizing data science techniques.

The Tenure Track professorship will be affiliated with the Faculty of Mathematics under the Key Research Area “Computational Mathematics and Data Science” (https://mathematik.univie.ac.at/forschung/computational-mathematics-and-data-science-comada/). Within this focus area, there is expertise in fields that are of great important for the Tenure Track position, such as Machine Learning, Neural Networks, Optimization, Applied Harmonic Analysis, Inverse Problems, Quantum Information, and other relevant areas. Additionally, the position will be associated with the Research Network “Data Science @ Uni Vienna” (https://datascience.univie.ac.at/), which promotes collaborations with scientists engaged in the fundamentals and applications of data science.


Your academic profile:


We expect the successful candidate to acquire, within three years, proficiency in German sufficient for teaching in bachelor's programmes and for participation in university committees.
