The FWF project "Music and Psychoanalysis (c. 1910–1970)" is seeking to fill a position for a student assistant (50%) starting in November/December 2025. The FWF project [P 36888-G], led by PD Mag. DDr. Andrea Korenjak, Bakk., is affiliated to the Institute of Musicology at the University of Vienna.
The position is aimed at master's students majoring in musicology, music therapy, history, psychotherapy, gender studies, or a related field.

Job vacancy starting: as soon as possible - working hours: 20 hours (part time). The contract term for employment is one year.

The Institute of Musicology, integrated into the context of the Faculty of Historical and Cultural Studies, is characterized by a high degree of academic and methodological diversity, as well as internationality.
The project addresses the multifaceted theoretical approaches to the psychoanalytic interpretation of music, its proponents, and the historical context of the period between approximately 1910 and 1970: Music appears i. a. as sublimated drive energy, as a threatening force that must be tamed, as an “acoustic stimulus” that the ego must cope with, as an early form of dialogue and nonverbal communication, as a medium that enables the feeling of a pleasurable dissolution of ego boundaries, as pleasure gain, etc.
Your responsibilities will include independent research in the field of historical music and psychotherapy research, with an emphasis on the project’s focal point.
