The Department of German Studies at the University of Vienna is the largest research and teaching center in Austria, covering the fields of German language and German-language literatures. The core areas are Modern German Literature, Medieval German Language and Literature, Germanic Linguistics, German as a Foreign and Second Language, and German Teaching Methodology. In addition, the areas of Gender Studies, Cultural Studies, Literary Theory, and Literature for Children and Young Adults are well established. 

Your personal sphere of play:

The position advertised here, is within the field of German as a Second Language. The work-group German as a Second Language (Deutsch als Zweitsprache) is led by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Inci Dirim. Here you can expect a small, dedicated team with a friendly work environment. The advertised position is for maternity leave cover until 28.02.2026 with the option of extension. The primary focus of the position is to support the "The speech action of multilingually socialized children in the institution of kindergarten" project, in which the colleague being replaced is working. This involves processing oral language data from children and adults who speak German and Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian. Therefore, a high knowledge of these languages is desirable. The position offers the opportunity to gain research experience in this area. Furthermore, you are expected to support ongoing activities within the department, such as organizing examinations. Should the position be extended, you would also be expected to undertake some teaching. Last but not least, you will be expected to participate in team activities such as joint meetings.

•    Completed doctoral/PdD studies in the field of German as a Second Language and Bosnian/Serbian/Croatian
•    Experience in empiric research
•    Focus on Linguistics
•    Excellent knowledge of German
•    be highly skilled in expressing him or herself both verbally and in writing
•    IT user skills 
•    Ability to work in teams 
•    Research experience
