Your workplace:
The Department of Political Science, a subunit of the Faculty of Social Sciences, addresses all major fields of political science. It is dedicated to innovative and problem-oriented research and provides students with a wide range of specialisations. Members of the Department study the transformation of governance, statehood and democracy across different policy areas, geographical regions and political areas.
As a Senior Lecturer, you will be responsible for academic teaching in the Political Science degree programmes for an average of 8 semester hours per week.
Your tasks:
- You will teach courses independently for an average of 8 SWS per semester. We would welcome the possibility to increase the level of employment if required and if budgetary resources allow this.
- You will teach in the areas of Qualitative Methods and Policy Studies, and additionally in the interdisciplinary foundations and academic skills.
- You will also teach seminars supporting students with their Bachelor’s thesis as well as various (including research-led) seminars within the Master’s programme (e.g. seminars supporting students to develop a thesis proposal).
- You will take on administrative tasks, particularly in the administration of teaching.
- We expect you to keep abreast of the latest scientific developments and to participate in further didactic training, the exchange of experience between teachers and quality assurance measures.
Prerequisite for an application:
We are looking for people who see university teaching as an interesting and challenging professional field. Requirements for application and admission:
- Completed doctoral degree in Political Science or another relevant social science discipline
- Several years of independent teaching experience at a post-secondary educational institution
- Didactic competencies / experience in digital teaching and e-learning
- Research and publication record
- Excellent command of English and German (C1 level)
- You have:
- Solid knowledge and research experience in the field of qualitative methods, including inductive and abductive approaches
- Good knowledge of deliberative and interpretive policy analysis
- The following additional skills are desirable:
- Experience with blended learning
- Knowledge of interdisciplinary methodological approaches and techniques of social and political science research
- Teaching experience at the BA and MA levels
- You are well organised, conscientious, and enjoy teaching in a student- and competence-oriented manner
- You are a team player with strong social and communication skills
- You are flexible, quick to grasp new concepts, and open to new ideas
