Extent of Employment: 30.0 hours/week, which include a teaching assignment of 10.5 hours scientific classes on average per semester (21 hours per academic year).

In addition to providing a solid academic education, we also place a special emphasis on the personal development of students. We support students in developing curiosity and critical thinking, thereby creating a solid foundation for the professional challenges of the next generation.
Your workplace:
the Centre for Translation Studies has a staff of about 150 researchers and teachers and 10 employees in administration. Research at the Centre focuses on two key research areas: 1) technologies and socio-cognitive processes in translation and interpreting, and 2) translation and interpreting in social, institutional and media contexts. The Centre offers the following study programmes: Bachelor’s programme “Transcultural Communication”, Master’s programme “Translation” and Master’s programme “Multilingual Technologies”, with 14 languages and currently 2000 students.
Your future tasks:
- You hold courses on BA and MA level
- You contribute to the (further) development of course and examination formats.
- We expect you to continuously integrate the current state of the art into your teaching, to participate in didactic trainings and to conduct research in periods without courses.
- You will take on administrative tasks, especially in the administration of teaching.
Your contract includes research-based teaching (among other things, translation and interpreting courses) in our BA and MA programmes (BA Transcultural Communication and MA Translation). Your active working languages include, in addition to German, two or more of the following languages:
- Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian,
- English
- French,
- Polish,
- Portuguese,
- Romanian,
- Russian,
- Hungarian
What we expect:
We are looking for people who see university teaching as an interesting and challenging career field. Requirements for application are:
- PhD in the field of Translation Studies or Transcultural Communication
- Degree in Translation or Interpreting Studies in your working languages
- Several years of teaching experience at a post-secondary educational institution
- Expertise in translation technologies and CAT tools
- 2 active working languages in addition to German (see list); the decision will be based on current needs;
- Excellent written and spoken German and English skills in addition to your further working language(s)
- Enthusiasm for passing on knowledge and for university teaching
- Expertise in language technologies, localisation, and project management are desirable but not a requirement
