The Institute for Habsburg and Balkan Studies (ÖAW) invites applications for a postdoctoral position in the FWF-funded project “Alternative Hellenisms: Religion, Language and Identity in Frangochiotika Documents”. The project investigates Greek-language texts written in Latin script, produced chiefly by Catholic communities in the early modern and modern Eastern Mediterranean (16th–20th centuries) and builds the first comprehensive digital corpus and edition of this textual tradition.

The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate academic independence, a publication record appropriate to their career stage, and the ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment spanning history, literary studies, linguistics, and digital humanities.

Our Offer

 

The minimum annual gross salary for this position is EUR 70.167,44 (full-time based), in accordance with the collective agreement of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW). For part-time employment, the salary will be adjusted on a pro rata basis in line with the agreed working hours. Application deadline is 24.09.2026.
