Your Tasks
- Lead the ÖAW Team within the AI Factory Austria
- Design and facilitate innovation sprints using frameworks like Design Thinking and agile methodologies.
- Guide cross-functional teams in ideating, prototyping, and validating AI-driven solutions.Evaluate feasibility and strategic alignment of AI prototypes and support next steps.
- Ensure compliance with AI ethics and regulatory principles throughout the sprint process.
- Capture results and derive insights to inform future development and scaling efforts.
- Establishing and maintaining networks in the field of artificial intelligence with academic institutions in Austria and internationally.
- Supporting researchers and innovators from the AI Factory Austria and partner institutions in exchanging the latest scientific methods and findings in fields such as biotechnology, manufacturing, public administration, and physics to accelerate innovation.
- Assisting business partners in effectively utilising new scientific results through targeted technology transfer activities.

- Design and coordinate AI training programs aligned with the AI Act and industry needs to upskill professionals and foster trustworthy AI.
- Establish and manage an internship and exchange program connecting academia, industry, and European AI partners.
- Build and maintain networks to promote AI related knowledge transfer and long-term collaboration across sectors.
- Serve as a central contact point for training, internships, and exchange activities within the AI Factory Austria.

Your Tasks
- Hold a PhD in Social Anthropology or a closely related field, awarded by 1 January 2026; no earlier than 10 years prior (plus parental leave).
- Have prior experience conducting long-term ethnographic fieldwork in Southeast Asia.
- Willingness and ability to conduct 12–15 months of fieldwork in Indonesia, Malaysia, or the Philippines.
- Fluency in a language relevant to fieldwork in Indonesia, Malaysia, or the Philippines.
- Ability to work independently, including conducting fieldwork, data analysis and writing, plus develop original lines of inquiry.
- Familiarity with the anthropological literature on resource extraction and animism.
- Show awareness of ethical considerations in fieldwork on extractive industries.
- Understand issues related to personal and participant security during fieldwork.
- Be prepared to join an existing research project and actively contribute to its central aims and collaborative inquiries.
- Be prepared to reside in Austria for the duration of the position (excluding fieldwork) and actively participate in project and institute events.

Your personal sphere of play:
- Researching, writing and completing a (publication-ready) habilitation thesis, a second book or a research project. A planned project in the field of transnational history of the Modern period, with a particular focus on the political and/or cultural aspects; and/or a planned project that includes global perspectives on European history. The research project should focus on a topic situated within the period 1800–1939, without necessarily addressing the full timeframe; a specific emphasis on refugees, political repression or transnational political mobilisation is advantageous.
- Strengthening an independent research profile
- Publishing in highly ranked journals / conference proceedings
- Organizing meetings, conferences, symposia and workshops
- Being responsible for submitting project applications and acquiring third-party funding
- Independent teaching of courses and student supervision in Modern History as defined by the collective bargaining agreement (two courses per semester)
- Participation in evaluation measures and quality assurance
- Involvement in department administration, as well as in teaching and research administration
